Description
Beyond the Therapeutic Order: a prospective approach to Naturopathic philosophy and practice - Dr. Ryan Phillips
This presentation explores the dynamic landscape of contemporary naturopathic philosophy, navigating the tensions between traditional vitalism and the modernization of Naturopathic practice. While foundational principles like the Therapeutic Order provide a crucial framework for clinical decision-making and are based on evaluating the patient as a whole being, encompassing spiritual, mental/emotional, and physical dimensions, practical application and theoretical development often emphasize the physical, with less explicit focus on mental/emotional and spiritual health. Drawing upon recent efforts to articulate and advance naturopathic theory and research methodologies suited for complex, whole-system care, this session will propose a prospective approach to philosophical development. We will delve into operationalizing the "Treat the Whole Person" principle to more fully integrate the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health, envisioning a future where traditional wisdom, scientific inquiry, and a deeply articulated multi-dimensional understanding of health unite to enhance both philosophy and practice.
